Episode 250: The One with Our History

A look back at our 5 Years History.

It's our milestone 250th episode and to celebrate, we take a look back at our 5 years reporting and talking about the gaming industry. We dive deep into all our past show notes and discover the fun stuff we talked about and some stuff that came and went in the blink of an eye. We've been doing this show for a wonderful 5 years, and hope to do it for another 5!

We also have a special interview with Dan Amrich, of Palette-Swap Ninja. Dan and his musical partner, Jude Kelly, recently released the result of their own epic 5 year journey: Princess Leia's Stolen Death Star Plans, a Star Wars parody album set entirely to the music of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The album faithfully recreates every song on the album and tells the story of A New Hope in chronological Order. Listen to the album at palletswapninja.com or watch the entire Playlist on YouTube at bit.ly/starwarsbeatles.

Episode 249: The One with the Anti-Gamer

We love numbers.  Episode 249, recorded on 4/29, falls on the exact anniversary of our first show.  5 years ago to the day (4/29/2012) we launched and next week we celebrate with our milestone 250th episode!  Numbers!

Games! We play games around here.  We even still play VR games and this week we review Symphony of the Machine for PSVR and give an update on last week's review of Fated: The Silent Oath.  In non-VR land, Tycko reviews Voodoo Vince: Remastered for Xbox One.  In the category of "It's About Time!", Sean finally gets into Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and figures out what the heck he's been doing wrong this whole time!

In the news, we discuss the games of the month for Xbox Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus. More Nintendo numbers as we get an update how sales figures for Nintendo Switch and say goodbye to 3D on the 3DS.  In game release news, Call of Duty returns to World War II, Forza Horizon takes on Hot Wheels, and Burnout Crash Mode comes back with Danger Zone.

All that and more in Episode 249 of The OMG! Hour.

Episode 245: The One with the Simulations

In a world of greats such as Mass Effect Andromeda and Horizon Zero Dawn, we find ourselves wondering who will play all the other, smaller, unknown games out there. Enter Tycko aka MrSecondPlace, who puts aside all his wants and desires just for you! He takes on the games you won't so that.....uh....we're still not really sure why, actually. Probably for the achievements. Yeah, that's probably it.

This week's new games include Snake Pass from Sumo Digital, Punch Club from tinyBuild Games, and This is the Police! from THQ Nordiq. In other games, after many hours of Mass Effect Andromeda, Sean covers a few of his gripes in the game such as the crafting system, character dialogs, and the useless Journal.

In the news this week, we discuss how video games can protect mental health and avert trauma and addiction; more sales number for the Nintendo Switch compared to other systems in their first weeks of life; and the PlayStation Plus games for April 2017.

Episode 244: The One with the New Galaxy

It's time for The OMG! Hour once more and, tired as we may be, we're here just for you! We do this for you. At least that's what Tycko tells himself at night. Sean and Jeff played some normal games this week, what Tycko played will shock you! Actually, you'll probably just roll your eyes like we did.

Of course, the big game this week is Mass Effect Andromeda and we'd be remiss if we didn't discuss our experience with the game so far. Jeff even took a few days off to play it. For you, of course! The Paladins beta is also discussed this week and you won't believe what Tycko plays next! Okay, okay, enough with the click-bait wording already!

In the news this week, we discuss Overwatch's new character, Orisa; a strange bug fix for Horizon Zero Dawn; a possible Assassin's Creed TV show; and the Xbox Games with Gold titles for April.

Our Lost Treasure this week is Rocket Knight Adventures for Sega Genesis, released in 1993. Lost Treasures is written and narrated by Syd Bolton of pcmuseum.ca with gameplay capture by Fred Rojas of gaminghistory101.com.

Episode 243: The One with the Hand Chicken

We went to PAX East again this year! Well, Sean and Tycko did anyway. So before we get to that, let's talk about games that came out just before we left. Like Ghost Recon Wildlands, for example. And Lego No Man's Sky....oops, I mean Lego Worlds.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, Sony brings us their new PlayStation Now in an attempt to compete with Microsoft's Game Pass subscription, and Jeff brings us all the numbers as we learn that Nintendo has sold 1.5 million Switch consoles in their first week. How do these number stack up to the rest of history?

Don't forget about PAX East! We review a few of our favourite games from the show and regale you with some interesting stories from our trip. We don't have time to cover everything here so be sure to check out our PAX East Day In Review shows on YouTube.

Episode 242: The One with the Lick

We waited a couple days to record this week so we could talk about the Nintendo Switch. And so that's what we do. Both Sean and Tycko picked up their preorders on Launch Day and have had some time to check out Nintendo's new console and the launch game, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Sean and Jeff also participated, once again, in Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Wildlands Open Beta and have some fun stories to tell from this incredible open-world game, including the Attack of the Killer Tractor!

In the news this week: Microsoft announces new subscription games services called Game Pass; Peter Moore leave EA and the gaming industry; No Man's Sky wins a GDC award....and weren't there to accept it; and we learn that players will not take all their hard work in Destiny over to Destiny 2.

Our Lost Treasure this week round out our Bungeling Bay Trilogy with 1982's Choplifter. Lost Treasures is written and narrated by Syd Bolton of pcmuseum.ca with gameplay footage by Fred Rojas at gaminghistory101.com.

Episode 241: The One with the Totally F-able Aliens

Horizon Zero Dawn / Mass Effect Andromeda

We're back to The Originals again this week as Tycko is, once again, unable to join us. Even without Tycko, we still manage to pump out lengthy gaming talk. In this week's episode, we discuss (amidst some technical difficulties) an upcoming puzzle game called Death Squared that is both clever, devious, and fun.  For Honor returns this week as we discuss the multiplayer options in Ubisoft new fighter, and, hot on the heels of our episode of "OMG! it's", Halo Wars 2!  Finally, after a very long wait, Sean is thrilled to be able to talk about his most anticipated game of 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn! Mass Effect Andromeda has made its way into the news this week thanks to several prominent gaming sites having been given the opportunity to sit down with the game in a limited fashion. We discuss these reports and our hopes and fears for the game. Mass Effect also gets its own card pack for Cards Against Humanity.

Our Lost Treasure this week is a sequel of sorts to last week's. Syd brings us Wil Wright's "Raid on Bungeling Bay" from 1984.  Lost Treasures is written and narrated by Syd Bolton of pcmuseum.ca with gameplay footage by Fred Rojas at gaminghistory101.com.

*DISCLAIMER: Death Squared, For Honor, Halo Wars 2, and Horizon Zero Dawn were all reviewed using download codes provided by the publishers.*
